DJ James Longworth

Funk & Vocal House DJMarc Millar Photography

James Longworth is a well-respected funk and vocal house DJ who has launched some of Scotland’s most successful clubs of the last two decades.  Originally from London, James went to study at Edinburgh University in 1995 where he spent a lot of his time doing improvised comedy and student radio.  That eventually took him into the bar and clubs and had his first residency at Bar Oz playing party tunes to the student masses.

James’ reputation as a reliable party DJ led him to launch The Three Sisters, Edinburgh’s first Super Pub in 1997.  He eventually left to create Pravda at Espionage for Billy Lowe’s Saltire Taverns which was the most profitable bar per square foot in Scotland for the four years that James was resident.  Further launches for Billy included the Frankenstein brand and Le Monde.  James was also the resident DJ for the first month of City Nightclub to establish its music policy.

Eventually James decided to promote some nights for the gay community and launched the now infamous VIBE and Blaze brands.  VIBE ran every Tuesday for seven years attracting more than 100000 customers during its life.  With a mix of party and commercial house James had created one of the most successful club nights that Edinburgh has ever seen.

After ten years in night-clubs James announced his was to retire as a full-time professional DJ in 2011 to concentrate on his other career as an airline captain.  He took his final bow at the last VIBE and hung up his headphones.

Until now.

With a huge viral campaign on social media James was persuaded out of retirement to play VIBE 2016.  A reunion of the old club night and an opportunity for James to embrace the latest technologies for DJs including Serato DJ and the various online portals.  He has continued his ‘Unretired Tour’ by launching a new brand James Longworth’s Bloody Mary Mix.  This is a Sunday afternoon, funky vibe which James is rolling out around the bars of Edinburgh.  He has also accepted gigs in other venues including The Street and Compass.

James has his own equipment (also available to hire) including Denon MCX8000 and MC6000 Mk2 decks, Serato DJ, EV PA system and radio mics and is now available for gigs and events.  He lives in Leith, Edinburgh in a property he renovated in 2013 and also hires for corporate functions (tb3edinburgh.com).  Outside interests include Scuba-Diving (PADI Master Scuba), Photography, Travel, Cooking and Cats!

James was the main reason Espionage became THE most popular nightclub in Edinburgh, it remained as popular for years because of his music and his phenomenal personality.
